New editor of The Clarion wins SPJ scholarship

Anica Graney was one of three students to be awarded with the Pat Schneider Scholarship by the Madison Society of Professional Journalists.

Graney, a second-year student at Madison College and the new editor of The Clarion, joins UW-Madison journalism students Lauryn Azu and Enjoyiana Nururdin as recipients of the one-time award.

The $1,200 scholarship is in memory of Pat Schneider, a long-time Cap Times reporter who passed away in September. The three students were selected by a panel of judges based on their demonstrated commitment to social justice journalism.

Judges said Graney, Azu and Nururdin “each demonstrated the ability and dedication to reporting issues that often go unheard or ignored, while showing potential to grown more as they further their studies in journalism.”
