Why so much talk about mindfulness? The habit can help us manage our emotions by allowing us to observe our thoughts without judgment and increase acceptance of life’s challenges. It can help us enjoy the present more which can lead to less stress, better decisions, and improved connections to others.
Start slow, use guided meditations at first, focus on your breath, and be patient with your mind being busy and unfocused for some time. You will slowly get better at observing your thoughts with less reaction to them.
Here are some resources to support the habit slowly over time:
- Download the Healthy Minds app from the Center for Healthy Minds
- Practice Mindfulness at your own pace with these videos: Optimism, Resilience, Gratitude, Habits, Mindfulness
- Consider enrolling in one or all three of the Mastering Mindfulness courses
